Nordic Institute for AI Risk and Resilience

Preserving human agency. Connecting knowledge. Strengthening societal resilience.

Who we are

The Nordic Institute for AI Risk and Resilience (NIARR) is an independent Nordic NGO dedicated to advancing interdisciplinary understanding, responsible AI governance, and societal resilience in an era of increasingly capable artificial intelligence.

NIARR aims to bring together expertise from cybersecurity, AI governance, academia, public policy, industry, and civil society.

Our founders believe that the challenges emerging from artificial intelligence cannot be understood or addressed effectively through isolated disciplines or institutions.

They require collaboration, shared knowledge, and coordinated approaches.

Our ambition is to contribute to stronger societal preparedness, better-informed governance, and more resilient institutions.

Our approach

  1. Understand

Advance knowledge and awareness of emerging AI risks and their interconnected implications for society.

  2. Connect

Bring together experts, institutions, disciplines, and communities to encourage collaboration and shared understanding.

  3. Advance

Support evidence-informed dialogue, responsible AI governance, and interdisciplinary approaches to risk management.

  4. Strengthen

Promote preparedness, adaptability, and resilience across organisations, critical infrastructure, and society.

Rooted in the Nordics.

Engaged with the world.

The Nordic countries have a strong tradition of democratic governance, institutional trust, social responsibility, technological innovation, and collaboration.

These values provide an important foundation for addressing the opportunities and risks associated with artificial intelligence.

NIARR seeks to contribute a Nordic perspective to international discussions and initiatives concerning AI governance, systemic risks, cybersecurity, and societal resilience.

The future of AI is a shared responsibility.

Let’s shape it together.
